For more than a year the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) engaged in an in-depth study regarding harassment in the workplace. The committee's key findings outlined in the Executive Summary are fascinating and are worth reading. One key observation most have made after reading the report is the focus on training which is mentioned several times. As an organization the burden of liability rests on your shoulders to ensure your employees know and follow your policies and procedures. The days of handing over an employee handbook and obtaining a signed acknowledgement page as a way to bolster your defense against a claim have long gone by the waist side. It is imperative that every business re-evaluate their training programs and how those are delivered to ensure each employee has been effectively made aware of your organizations policies and procedures.
