If you haven't already done so it is imperative that you evaluate your policies and procedures for two very important areas. New Jersey employers are required to update and if necessary revise their compensation and sick time programs. The Equal Pay Act (July 2018) and NJ Paid Sick Leave (October 2018) place new restrictions and responsibilities on employers. The Equal Pay Act requires employers to evaluate current and future employees rate of pay and ensure pay equity exists and if inequities exist employers must be able to demonstrate a valid reason. The Paid Sick Leave requires employers off all sizes to offer paid leave to its employees. The penalties for noncompliance can be crippling for any business especially. It is important when making the change to notify your employees in writing and to update any documents or distribution sources with the updated policy.Â
